Amine Gouiri backs team unity amid Algeria squad changes
Amine Gouiri has highlighted the importance of competition and experience within Algeria’s evolving squad as the team prepares to face Guatemala in an upcoming international fixture.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of the match, the forward addressed the changes within the national setup, with several new players joining the group during what he described as a transition period.
The shift has placed added responsibility on more established members of the squad.
Gouiri acknowledged his role among the senior figures, stressing the need to guide and support those recently introduced into the team.
” There are a lot of new players. We, in a sense, are among the veterans, so we’re here to support them, give them experience, and help them as much as possible ,” he said.
As Algeria continue to reshape their squad, internal competition has become a key talking point. Gouiri made clear that such rivalry should be seen as a positive force within the group rather than a source of division.
” Competition in football is part of the game. We play for a country, and whoever the player on the field is, they must give their all, and we must support them. This competition is very healthy ,” he stated.
His comments underline a collective approach within the squad, where performance and teamwork are prioritised.
With the coaching staff assessing different options and expanding the pool of available players, competition for places is expected to intensify.
Head coach Vladimir Petkovic is currently exploring various combinations as he looks to build a balanced and competitive team.
In this context, Gouiri’s emphasis on unity reflects the broader objective of strengthening cohesion while maintaining high standards.
The striker also pointed to the significance of the upcoming fixtures, which include matches against Guatemala and Uruguay.
He noted that these games provide an opportunity for experienced players to take on greater responsibility.
” We have two great international games, we must bring our experience to them ,” he added.
With Algeria entering a new phase, Gouiri’s remarks suggest that competition and guidance from senior players will play a central role in shaping the team’s progress.
