Amin Chiakha’s Rosenborg progress revives Algeria selection hopes
Amin Chiakha is back in contention for a place in the Algeria squad after a series of impressive performances for Rosenborg, with the 20-year-old forward’s return now dependent on the decisions of national team manager Vladimir Petkovic ahead of the September fixtures.
Chiakha was not selected for Algeria’s squad for the 2026 World Cup, with the coaching staff opting for other attacking options ahead of him. His recent displays in Norway, however, have put him back into consideration and strengthened the case for his inclusion in the team’s wider plans.
The player’s continued desire to represent Algeria has been reaffirmed by his father and representative, Nabil Chiakha. In an interview with Maghreb-Foot, Nabil Chiakha also highlighted the considerable potential his son showed during his development in Denmark.
Amin Chiakha’s possible inclusion in the next Algeria squad will be determined solely by the selector’s choices for the September international commitments. His representatives have nevertheless confirmed that contact has taken place with the Algerian Football Federation (FAF).
Those discussions are considered a natural step for a player who is already included in Algeria’s extended pool of international candidates. Chiakha’s recent form for Rosenborg has ensured that he remains part of the conversation, despite missing out on selection for the 2026 World Cup.
The forward was born in København and is under contract with Rosenborg until December 2030. His current market value is listed at 3.5m euros by Transfermarkt, an indication of the standing he has established while playing in Norway.
Rosenborg are due to face Bodø/Glimt in their next match, in the 19th round of the Norwegian championship. The fixture will provide Chiakha with another opportunity to maintain his recent level before the next international squad is announced.
The betting odds listed for the game make Bodø/Glimt clear favourites. Rosenborg are priced at 7.00 to win, while a draw is valued at 5.50 and a Bodø/Glimt victory at 1.30.
For Chiakha, the immediate focus will be on continuing to perform for Rosenborg. His progress will then be assessed by the Algeria coaching staff when they decide which players to call up for the September fixtures. While no selection has been confirmed, the renewed contact with the FAF and his place on the extended international list mean the possibility of a return to the Algeria set-up remains open.
