AmaZulu’s Ngwenya and Orlando Pirates boss Ouaddou win Betway Premiership August awards
Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya, Abdeslam Ouaddou and Brayan Leon have been recognised as the first winners of the Betway Premiership Monthly Awards for the 2026/27 season.
A panel of Premier Soccer League media-accredited judges selected the three winners on Monday, 7 September, after a month of notable individual displays and strong team performances in August.
Ngwenya claims Player of the Month award
AmaZulu FC forward Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya was named Betway Premiership Player of the Month after scoring five goals in four appearances.
The 23-year-old Zimbabwean international’s goalscoring run has taken him to the top of the Betway Premiership scoring charts and helped AmaZulu FC move up to fourth in the table.
Ngwenya’s award recognises a particularly productive opening month of the campaign. He beat TS Galaxy forward Victor Letsoalo and Orlando Pirates defender Lebone Seema to the individual prize.
His contribution has been central to AmaZulu FC’s progress, with the Durban-based club combining Ngwenya’s attacking form with a rise into the league’s top four.
Ouaddou rewarded for unbeaten start
Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou received the Coach of the Month award after leading the reigning Betway Premiership champions to three victories and one draw in their first four matches.
The Moroccan-Frenchman’s latest honour continues an impressive run since he took charge of the Soweto club. Ouaddou also won the final Betway Premiership Coach of the Month award of the previous season in May.
His August record means Orlando Pirates opened their title defence without defeat, collecting three wins alongside the draw from their opening four league fixtures.
The award further highlights the impact Ouaddou has made since arriving at Orlando Pirates, who begin the 2026/27 campaign as the reigning Betway Premiership champions.
Leon’s volley wins Goal of the Month
Mamelodi Sundowns forward Brayan Leon completed the list of August winners after his volley against AmaZulu FC was chosen as the Betway Premiership Goal of the Month.
Leon’s finish was selected ahead of two other efforts that also attracted strong support from the judging panel. One was a free-kick scored by his Mamelodi Sundowns team-mate Teboho Mokoena in the same match.
The other contender was Vincent Pule’s goal for Siwelele FC against TS Galaxy.
Despite that competition, Leon’s technically well-executed volley ultimately secured the award and gave Mamelodi Sundowns representation among the first monthly winners of the new season.
The trio were chosen after the judges assessed the standout performances produced across the Betway Premiership during August. Ngwenya’s goals, Ouaddou’s unbeaten start with Orlando Pirates and Leon’s finish against AmaZulu FC earned them the first honours of the 2026/27 campaign.
