AmaZulu striker Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya wins Betway Premiership Player of the Month award

AmaZulu FC striker Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya has thanked his teammates and the club’s technical team after being named the Betway Premiership Player of the Month.

The Zimbabwean forward was recognised following a prolific spell in front of goal, scoring five times in four matches for Usuthu. His run of form has also taken him to the top of the Betway Premiership scoring charts.

Ngwenya’s performances have attracted further international recognition, with the striker included in Zimbabwe’s preliminary squad for their forthcoming matches against Sierra Leone and DR Congo.

The award comes after a period in which his goals have played a key part in his emergence as one of the league’s leading scorers. However, Ngwenya was quick to stress that the achievement was not solely down to his individual efforts.

“I just want to say thank you for the award, also I want to thank my teammates and the technical team cause I wouldn’t do it without them,” he said.

“I do believe that they also contributed so much in this.”

The forward was also asked about the expectations placed on him by AmaZulu head coach Arthur Zwane, who has challenged him to continue scoring and raise his goalscoring contribution further.

Ngwenya said Zwane’s words had not created additional pressure. Instead, he viewed the manager’s challenge as encouragement to maintain his progress and concentrate on delivering in every match.

“Yeah, I know, it’s not like pressure but I will take each game as it is, and I will score each and every goal.”

Zwane has previously made a bold prediction about Ngwenya’s potential, while also backing the forward to reach the level achieved by a former Kaizer Chiefs star. Those comments have added to the focus surrounding the striker after his outstanding run of form for AmaZulu.

Ngwenya’s five goals in four games have placed him at the forefront of the league’s scoring race, while his selection in Zimbabwe’s preliminary squad gives him the opportunity to continue his progress on the international stage.

His immediate focus will be on maintaining the consistency that earned him the monthly award. The striker’s form has not only brought personal recognition but has also strengthened his standing within AmaZulu and Zimbabwe’s plans for the upcoming fixtures.
