AmaZulu boss Zwane tips new signing Ngezana to drive next phase of club’s rise

AmaZulu head coach Arthur Zwane believes new defensive signing Siyabonga Ngezana will be a pivotal figure in taking the club to the next level, both on the pitch and in the dressing room.

Ngezana, who has earned a reputation as one of South Africa’s most dependable defenders, joins Usuthu with extensive experience in both domestic and international football. Zwane is convinced that pedigree will be central to AmaZulu’s ambitions for the coming season.

“It’s quite important to have someone of his calibre. Very experienced,” Zwane said, hailing the defender’s arrival as a significant boost for the Durban side.

“He’s going to add so much value. He’s just come back from AFCON experience, so he’s going to share with us and also help the guys. Also, he’s got vast experience in club competitions as well.”

Zwane: Ngezana signing shows AmaZulu’s intent

Zwane sees the recruitment of Ngezana as a clear statement that AmaZulu are intent on building on the progress of the last two campaigns rather than being content with incremental improvement.

The coach feels the defender’s presence will enhance competition within the squad and offer leadership in key moments, underlining AmaZulu’s ambition to move from steady climbers to serious contenders.

“So having him on board, I think it’s a plus for us as a club. I welcome him, and we know he’s going to add so much value,” Zwane added.

Usuthu head into the new season buoyed by both their recent form and the sense that the squad is now better equipped to challenge South Africa’s leading teams.

AmaZulu approach the new campaign with confidence after successfully defending their KZN Premier’s Cup title, a result which has reinforced belief in Zwane’s project.

In the league, the club’s trajectory has also been positive. Two seasons ago, AmaZulu narrowly missed out on a higher position due to goal difference. Last season, they went one better, climbing to fourth place and underlining a tangible upward curve under Zwane’s leadership.

Those improvements, the coach insists, have come from a collective effort across every level of the club.

“I must say the players have responded positively to the demands and expectations. I’m proud of them, and I’m proud of the technical team, the president for the support that he’s giving us, the board, the CEO, and everyone who has been there through thick and thin.

“I think they’ve done well so far, and we’re on a growth path going forward.”

With Ngezana now added to what Zwane regards as an already competitive squad, AmaZulu are hoping their steady rise can soon be converted into major honours.

The club believe they have the structure and backing to sustain their push. Zwane highlighted the unity within the technical team and the strong backing from the hierarchy, including club president and CEO Sandile Zungu, as crucial factors in their attempt to match and challenge the country’s biggest sides again this season.
