Alphonso Davies urged to choose healing over World Cup 2026 dream

Bayern Munich are reportedly pushing Alphonso Davies to put his long-term fitness ahead of playing at the 2026 World Cup on home soil with Canada.

According to German outlet Sport.de, via Bild, the club would prefer their 25-year-old left-back to skip the tournament so he can fully recover from his current injury.

Davies suffered a hamstring problem in his left thigh during Bayern’s Champions League semifinal second leg against Paris Saint-Germain, a game the Germans lost 1–0. Initial estimates put his recovery time at around five to six weeks, but Canadian sources believe he could be back slightly sooner, in roughly four to five weeks. That timeline would bring him back just before the World Cup kicks off, increasing the risk of a setback if he jumps straight into high-intensity tournament action.

Bayern’s medical and sporting staff are said to fear that long-haul travel and the physical demands of a World Cup could seriously hinder his rehab. Even so, insiders doubt Davies will stay in Munich, given how much playing a World Cup in North America means to him.

He has featured 33 times for Bayern this season, with one goal and five assists, and is a key figure for both club and country. Canada are drawn in Group B with Switzerland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Qatar, with the tournament starting on June 11.
