Algerian League 2: USM Harrach considers appeal to CAS over alleged match irregularities

USM Harrach has threatened to escalate its legal challenge to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne following what it alleges to be serious irregularities during a crucial Algerian League 2 match.

The club, which narrowly missed out on promotion to Ligue 1, continues to dispute the legitimacy of the result between AS Khroub and MB Rouissat, played on 9 May.

The match, which ended in a 3-2 victory for visiting side MB Rouissat on matchday 29, is now at the centre of a growing controversy.

USM Harrach claims the game was marred by irregular conduct and has accused both teams of potentially being involved in unsporting behaviour.

In a strongly worded statement published this week, USM Harrach voiced frustration over the ongoing silence from the National Amateur Football League (LNFA), despite having submitted a formal complaint.

The club also criticised the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) and its Ethics Committee for their failure to respond or initiate an investigation into the matter.

“Faced with this silence and these delays, USM Harrach will not give up,” the statement read. “We are prepared to pursue this matter before the highest sports jurisdiction, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).”

The club’s management confirmed it has already begun preparations for an international legal challenge, including engaging a law firm with expertise in sports litigation.

USM Harrach said it intends to provide legal counsel with all relevant materials, including video footage from the disputed fixture.

“We have already begun the process of working with a legal firm, and we will furnish them with all the documentation and visual evidence concerning the conduct of the match,” the club announced.

USM Harrach’s campaign to return to Algeria’s top flight was ultimately derailed by MB Rouissat’s victory—one that clinched promotion for the Ouargla-based club.

MB Rouissat has since been declared champions of the Central-East group and has celebrated its historic ascent to Ligue 1 Mobilis.

While MB Rouissat and its supporters marked the achievement with jubilation, USM Harrach has remained steadfast in its pursuit of what it sees as justice.

The club maintains that transparency and accountability must prevail, and it is prepared to go to great lengths to uphold the integrity of the competition.

As the domestic football authorities continue to refrain from public comment, pressure is mounting for an official response—one that could have implications not only for the standings, but for trust in Algeria’s football governance as a whole.
