Algerian international Amine Gouiri set to return for Marseille clash with Le Havre

Amine Gouiri is expected to make a swift return to action for Olympique de Marseille following his injury scare during Algeria’s recent match against Uganda.

Despite initial concerns, medical assessments have revealed that the forward’s condition is not as serious as first feared.

The 25-year-old striker, who collided violently with the Ugandan goalkeeper during the encounter, was initially placed under concussion protocol and also suffered a dislocated shoulder — the same one he had previously injured while at Marseille.

However, subsequent examinations brought relief both to Gouiri and his club.

Tests confirmed that he did not sustain a concussion, sparing him from the extended recovery period that would have forced him to miss Marseille’s upcoming Ligue 1 and Champions League fixtures, including a crucial tie against Sporting Portugal.

His shoulder, which was reset after the incident, has also shown encouraging signs of stability, with surgery currently deemed unnecessary.

Although Gouiri’s arm remained in a sling during his recent meeting with the French President, his recovery has been progressing positively.

The club’s medical team continues to monitor his condition closely, but optimism within the Marseille camp is growing that he will be fit for selection against Le Havre.

Club sources suggest that while his participation is not in doubt, coach Gennaro Gattuso may choose to manage the forward’s minutes carefully.

Gouiri could begin the match on the bench, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Iliman Ndiaye likely to start in attack as Marseille balance domestic commitments with European ambitions.

Discussions are ongoing over the possibility of further medical evaluations to ensure Gouiri’s long-term fitness and to determine whether surgery may be necessary in the future.

If an operation is ultimately required, it is expected to be scheduled after next summer’s World Cup, allowing the French-born Algerian forward to maintain his availability for both club and country in the crucial months ahead.

For Gouiri, who missed the previous Africa Cup of Nations through injury, the update comes as a personal relief.

His return to form has been vital for Marseille, and his potential inclusion — even in a limited capacity — could provide a timely boost as the club prepares for an intense run of fixtures across all competitions.
