Algeria v Niger: Fennecs aim to finish international break with friendly win

Algeria face Niger in a friendly at the Stade Hocine-Ait-Ahmed in Tizi Ouzou on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, as both sides conclude the first international break of the 2026-27 season.

Kick-off is at 17:00 GMT. The match will be broadcast by Canal+ Sport Afrique, beIN Sports, ENTV and TV6.

The fixture gives both coaches an opportunity to assess their squads and test tactical plans, although the two teams arrive with contrasting ambitions and recent form.

Algeria have dominated the head-to-head record. Across roughly a dozen official and friendly meetings, the Fennecs have won 10 times and drawn once. Niger’s only victory came in May 1981, when they won 1-0.

Their most recent encounters have also favoured Algeria. The sides drew 0-0 in the 2025 CHAN on 18 August, while Algeria won 1-0 away in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on 27 March and 2-1 at home on 24 March. Algeria also recorded a 5-0 victory in the CHAN on 31 January 2023 and a 2-0 friendly win on 2 November 2022.

Recent form

Ranked 29th in the FIFA rankings, Algeria have produced inconsistent results in recent months. At the last World Cup, they beat Jordan 2-1, drew 3-3 with Austria and then lost 2-0 to Switzerland.

In Africa Cup of Nations qualifying, Algeria secured a 3-1 win against Zambia before being held to a 2-2 draw by Burundi. The friendly against Niger will provide another chance to address defensive weaknesses and build confidence.

Niger are ranked around 108th in the world and have struggled particularly in away matches. They followed a 2-1 victory over Lesotho in qualifying with a 2-0 defeat by Gabon.

For the Mena, the game represents an opportunity to test their resilience against one of Africa’s leading nations. They will also be looking to improve their performance against stronger opposition after a difficult run on the road.

Match prediction

Algeria start as clear favourites given their superior overall squad and commanding record in this fixture. Despite several absences in defence and midfield, the Fennecs are considered to have enough attacking quality to break down a Niger side that has often found it difficult to compete with Africa’s top teams.

Africafoot’s prediction is a 2-0 victory for Algeria.

The available betting prices list Algeria at 1.21 to win, with a draw at 7.50 and a Niger victory at 15.00.
