World Cup 2026: Algeria’s “Greens” mix training with cultural experience during Kansas camp
Algeria’s national football team, known as the Greens, combined recovery, training and cultural activity during a busy day in Kansas following their emphatic 4-0 friendly win over Bolivia.
The squad took part in a morning visit to the University of Kansas sports complex, where players were given the opportunity to explore facilities and engage with American sporting culture before returning to training later in the day under coach Vladimir Petković.
After the heavy victory in their previous outing, the team spent time away from the pitch sampling different sports, with several players trying basketball and baseball as part of the visit.
The activity formed part of a lighter recovery programme designed to balance preparation with relaxation during their stay in the United States.
In the afternoon, focus returned to football as the squad resumed training sessions on pitches allocated for the Algerian national team.
The atmosphere remained positive as players went through a series of drills and group exercises under the technical guidance of Petković.
Captain Riyad Mahrez and his teammates were all present for the session, with the exception of defender Rami Bensebaini, who remained on the sidelines as he continued treatment for a right ankle injury.
The rest of the squad participated fully in the training programme.
The session also drew significant attention from supporters.
A large crowd of Algerian fans living in the United States attended, alongside local American families who came to meet the national team during their Kansas base camp.
At the end of training, players spent time interacting with supporters in a lively and relaxed atmosphere.
There were autograph signings and group photographs, with the squad taking time to acknowledge fans who had gathered to watch the session.
The day also included a community-focused activity linked to FIFA’s “Be Active” campaign, delivered in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO).
Around sixty children, both boys and girls, took part in the initiative, which promotes healthy lifestyles and encourages participation in sport.
Players from the Algerian squad joined the children during the event, reinforcing the campaign’s message while engaging in simple sporting activities designed to encourage physical activity and wellbeing.
The combination of training, public engagement and cultural exchange marked a full schedule for the team as they continue their preparation period in the United States.
With competitive fixtures approaching, the Greens are balancing on-field work with broader outreach activities during their camp.
Overall, the day reflected a blend of football preparation and off-pitch engagement, as Algeria continued to build momentum following their convincing win over Bolivia while also connecting with supporters and participating in wider sporting initiatives.
