Al Hilal’s defensive puzzle gets a timely boost with Hassan Tambakti back in training
Al Hilal have been handed a significant boost ahead of the most demanding stages of the season after defender Hassan Tambakti returned to part of first-team training.
The Saudi Arabia international joined his team-mates for the opening section of the session, raising hopes that he is nearing a full return to action. His availability would give head coach Simone Inzaghi another important option in central defence as Al Hilal prepare for a series of major fixtures.
Tambakti has been sidelined since sustaining an injury while representing Saudi Arabia at the 2026 World Cup. He has spent the intervening period following a medical and rehabilitation programme designed to restore both his physical condition and his footballing sharpness.
His involvement in the first part of training is regarded as a positive indication of progress, although he will not be considered ready for competitive matches until his fitness has been fully assessed. The final decision on when he can return to official action will rest with the medical team and Inzaghi.
The defender’s recovery comes at an important moment for Al Hilal. The team have experienced difficulties in defence in recent weeks, with opponents finding space through the centre and several defenders struggling to maintain their previous levels of performance.
Inzaghi has been looking for greater stability in the heart of his defence, particularly after a drop in form from Senegal international Kalidou Koulibaly. Tambakti’s return could allow the Italian manager to reorganise the back line and make use of the defender’s qualities in covering space, competing in challenges and reading dangerous situations.
Tambakti is viewed as an important part of Al Hilal’s plans because of more than his technical ability. He also brings substantial experience of high-pressure matches and has shown he can handle games that demand a high level of defensive concentration.
Those qualities could prove especially valuable as Al Hilal approach decisive commitments across more than one competition. The club will be hoping that Tambakti can complete the next stages of his recovery without setbacks and regain full match fitness as quickly as possible.
For Inzaghi, the defender’s gradual return offers the possibility of a stronger and more balanced defensive unit. If Tambakti reaches the required level, Al Hilal may finally have the additional piece needed to improve the solidity of a back line that has come under pressure during the recent period.
His participation in training does not yet confirm an immediate comeback, but it represents important progress for both player and club as Al Hilal enter the crucial phase of the campaign.
