Al Ahly’s Reda Slim rejects local offers as AS FAR loan deal stalls over wages

Al Ahly are yet to reach an agreement over the future of Morocco international Reda Slim, with the player reported to be holding out for a return to AS FAR.

The Egyptian club are seeking either a permanent transfer or a loan move for Slim ahead of next season. However, negotiations with the Moroccan side have been delayed by a disagreement over how the player’s salary would be covered.

A source at Al Ahly told FilGoal: “Reda Slim rejected local offers and insists on moving to AS FAR.”

The source added: “The Moroccan club wants to loan the player, with Al Ahly bearing the larger part of his salary, which has delayed the agreement between the two clubs until now.”

Slim spent last season on loan at AS FAR after returning to the club from Al Ahly. He made 38 appearances in all competitions during the campaign, contributing to 11 goals.

The 26-year-old scored six times and provided five assists for AS FAR. The club also finished as runners-up in the CAF Champions League after losing to Mamelodi Sundowns.

Those performances have led AS FAR to seek another temporary deal, but the financial terms remain unresolved. The Moroccan club’s preference is to take Slim on loan, while Al Ahly would be expected to pay most of his wages under the current proposal.

Slim joined Al Ahly in the summer of 2023 from AS FAR. After two seasons with the Egyptian club, he returned to his former side on loan for the previous campaign.

During his time with Al Ahly, Slim played 44 matches and contributed to eight goals. His future is now dependent on whether the two clubs can settle the salary arrangement, with the player’s preference understood to be a move back to AS FAR rather than a transfer to another domestic club.

The latest developments leave Al Ahly continuing to work towards an agreement that would allow Slim to leave before the new season. At present, the proposed loan remains blocked by the dispute over the division of his wages, while Slim has rejected the local alternatives presented to him.
