Al Ahly remains steadfast in its decision to withdraw from the Egyptian Premier League after its demand for foreign referees in the summit clash against Zamalek was ignored.
The club had officially requested a postponement of Tuesday’s match until an international refereeing crew was assigned. However, the Football Association proceeded with appointing local referee Mahmoud Bassiouni, prompting Al Ahly to boycott the game while Zamalek appeared at Cairo Stadium.
With Al Ahly absent, the referee followed protocol, waited the required time, then blew the final whistle, confirming the match’s conclusion without a ball being kicked.
A source within Al Ahly told Kooora, “We will not wait for the Professional Clubs Association’s decision regarding the match result. The club had already ruled that the game should not be played without foreign referees, and that condition was not met.”
The source further stated that Al Ahly is exploring escalation procedures, including filing a complaint with FIFA over the league’s scheduling and the failure to bring in foreign match officials.
