Rayon Sports, CS Sfaxien, Durban City and several other clubs have secured places in the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup after a busy weekend of first-round action across Africa.

The first round produced a mixture of comfortable victories, narrow successes and hard-fought draws as clubs battled to remain in the continental competition.

Rayon Sports survive Panthère challenge

Rwanda’s Rayon Sports secured their place in the next round after playing out a goalless draw with Panthère on Saturday.

The result was enough for Rayon Sports to progress on the away-goals basis after the two sides finished level on aggregate at 1-1.

Tusker also moved through after a 1-0 victory over Al-Ahli Wad Medani, securing a 3-2 aggregate success.

Uganda’s Kitara comfortably advanced after beating Mogadishu City 2-0 to complete a 4-1 aggregate victory, while Mozambique’s Black Bulls progressed after a goalless draw with Atomi Ngome, winning the tie 1-0 on aggregate.

ZED and Hilal Alsahil also advance

ZED secured progression despite being held to a 1-1 draw by Ali Sabieh. The Egyptian side advanced 5-1 on aggregate following their commanding first-leg victory.

Hilal Alsahil also booked their place in the next round after a 1-0 away victory over Welwalo Adigrat completed a 3-1 aggregate success.

Despite Diambars defeating them 1-0 on Saturday, Zarzis progressed 3-2 on aggregate to keep their continental campaign alive.

Durban City make historic progress

Sunday saw more clubs confirm their places in the second round.

South Africa’s Durban City continued their impressive continental debut with a 2-1 victory over Burundi’s Rukinzo, completing a 3-1 aggregate success.

Red Arrows also advanced after defeating Inate Rouge 2-0, while Singida Black Stars produced one of the weekend’s strongest performances by beating Al-Ghazala 3-0.

Kabuscorp secured their place with a 3-1 victory over UNAM, while Diarra progressed after holding Ghanaian side Nations FC to a 1-1 draw.

CS Sfaxien complete successful weekend

Togo’s Kara advanced after a 1-0 victory over AS ZAM, while Tunisian giants CS Sfaxien secured their passage with a 2-0 win over Shooting.

The first-round results have now set the stage for the second preliminary round, with the remaining clubs continuing their pursuit of a place in the group stage of Africa’s second-tier club competition.
