Al Ahly clawed back a dramatic 1-1 draw against Pyramids FC on Saturday night at Cairo’s Air Defense Stadium, keeping their Egyptian Premier League hopes alive in the second round of the crowning stage.
The teams’ history showed Pyramids FC with 5 wins, Al Ahly with 11, and 5 draws. The match tilted when Pyramids FC’s Mohanad Lasheen saw red in the 57th minute after a second yellow for a reckless foul.
Pyramids FC still struck first, with Mohamed El-Sheeb’s right-footed rocket from outside the box finding the bottom left corner in the 86th minute, assisted by Sodiq Ougola. But Al Ahly refused to fold in the 90th minute, Ahmed Hashem unleashed a right-footed screamer from distance, assisted by Nejc Gradisar after a set piece, leveling the score.
Pyramids FC, under Krunoslav Jurčić, now lead with 44 points, four ahead of Marcel Koller’s Al Ahly, who face Pharco FC in the League Cup on April 15.
