Al Ahly handball team travel to Bosnia for international friendly tournament

Al Ahly’s handball team will travel to Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday to take part in an international friendly tournament as preparations continue for the 2026-27 season.

The Al Ahly delegation is due to leave shortly after the club announced the schedule for the trip. The tournament will be held from 12 to 15 August, providing the Egyptian side with a competitive test before the start of the new campaign.

Al Ahly have been placed in Group A, where they will face Germany’s Melsungen and Bosnia’s Sloga. The group-stage opponents will give the Egyptian club the opportunity to measure themselves against teams from different handball backgrounds during the four-day event.

Group B consists of the Qatar national team, Sporting Lisbon and Slovenia’s Grosist Slovan. The tournament therefore includes club and national-team representation, with the competing sides divided into two groups for the friendly competition.

Al Ahly will not remain in Bosnia for the rest of their pre-season programme. After this tournament, the delegation will travel to Russia to participate in another friendly event, scheduled to take place from 20 to 24 August.

The two overseas tournaments form part of Al Ahly’s preparations for the 2026-27 handball season. The club will be aiming to carry forward the success of the previous campaign, when they won both the league and cup titles.

Their domestic double placed Al Ahly among the leading sides in Egyptian handball last season, and the upcoming fixtures in Bosnia and Russia will allow the team to continue building towards the new campaign.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina tournament begins on 12 August and concludes on 15 August, before Al Ahly move on to Russia for their second friendly competition between 20 and 24 August.
