Egyptian heavyweights Al Ahly have reportedly reached an agreement to part ways with Percy Tau, who has been a target for Kaizer Chiefs.
According to SuperSport journalist Karabo Phasha, both parties have now agreed to mutually terminate Tau’s contract, with Al Ahly set to pay him the remainder of his contract along with a waiver.
Tensions have risen between Tau and the club over a potential contract extension, leading to the decision to mutually terminate their partnership.
The Bafana Bafana star enjoyed a successful spell with Al Ahly, ending the 2022/23 season with 17 goal contributions in 42 appearances.
However, his performance this season has plateaued, with six goals but no assists, which contributed to the stalled contract negotiations.
The proposed new deal would have made Tau the highest-paid player in Africa, with a lucrative three-year contract worth about 1.2m dollars annually, incrementally increasing each year.
Despite the initial offer, Al Ahly opted to retract it and instead consider selling Tau. Reports indicate that the club was ready to terminate his contract as they looked to secure another foreign player.
