Ahmed Mostafa Zizo has set the record straight: his high-profile switch from Zamalek to Al Ahly wasn’t about chasing money, but chasing legacy.

In a televised interview, the former Zamalek star revealed that his decision to join the Red Devils came after careful thought, stressing that he chose Al Ahly for their hunger to win trophies and make history.

“This wasn’t an easy step,” Zizo admitted. “But I was drawn to the club’s passion for greatness, not financial promises.”

He noted that his ties with Al Ahly run deep, many of his relatives are supporters, and added that he had always shown respect to the club’s fans.

Reflecting on his time at Zamalek, Zizo said he felt unappreciated. He shared that he was publicly insulted, while his father was wrongly accused of seeking commissions during contract talks.

He also confirmed that he turned down a $2 million offer from Saudi side Al Ettifaq in January after speaking directly with coach Steven Gerrard, only for Zamalek to block the move.

“I gave five years, but in the end, I felt forced to go,” he said.
