Mahdi Magdy, a member of the board of directors of Al Ahly Club and head of the football team’s mission in Ghana, revealed the challenging circumstances faced by the mission.
Al Ahly has requested the postponement of their match against Medeama Ghanaian from the African Football Confederation (CAF) after the team’s plane was involved in an accident at Accra airport, preventing the aircraft from traveling to Kumasi and thus delaying the team’s arrival.
The match between Al Ahly and Medeama is scheduled to take place at 6 PM tomorrow, Friday, as part of the fifth round of the African Champions League.
Mahdi Magdy, the head of the mission, said via Al Ahly’s channel, “It was a difficult journey and very challenging circumstances starting from the delayed departure of the flight from Cairo for technical reasons related to Cairo.
Then we arrived at Accra airport and waited for half an hour to refuel to fly to Kumasi, but after three hours, we were surprised by a technical problem that prevented us from moving.”
Mahdi Magdy revealed, “Our permit at Kumasi airport was canceled due to the delay, and we had no choice but to stay in Accra.”
The head of the mission clarified, “We communicated with Mahmoud El Khatib, the club president, and Saad El Shalaby, the executive director, to provide them with all the information for official correspondence.”
“We have prepared for all possible scenarios during the coming period, and as soon as solutions are reached, they will be announced through Al Ahly’s official platforms.
I assure everyone about the safety of the mission, and I thank the Egyptian ambassador in Ghana for his efforts with us.
He even intervened to change our hotel accommodation here in Accra to provide comfort for the mission.”
He added, “A detailed report has been prepared about the incident to document what happened regarding contacting CAF to postpone the Medeama match, and we are waiting for the African Union’s decision.”
Mahdi Magdy concluded his statements, “We will play the match under any circumstances regardless of CAF’s decision and prepare ourselves for all possible situations.”
FilGoal.com has learned that the Al Ahly plane was involved in an accident at Accra airport due to a collision with a service vehicle, rendering it unable to fly to Kumasi for the Medeama match.
Al Ahly requested the postponement of the Medeama match from the African Union because their departure to Kumasi would be delayed until the aircraft crisis is resolved, either by the Ghanaian authorities or by waiting for EgyptAir to send another aircraft to Accra to transport the team to Kumasi.
The Al Ahly delegation headed to a hotel in Accra city to stay there until the crisis is resolved and they can travel to Kumasi.
