African Games Qualifiers: Second Leg Set to Determine Final Eight

Dakar, Senegal – The stage is set for a dramatic conclusion to the qualifiers for the 11th African Games, as the second leg of the matches will be played this weekend. With 13 crucial fixtures on the agenda, only eight teams will secure their place in the final round, which will take place in Congo from September 4 to 19.

Among the most intriguing ties, Nigeria will be aiming to improve on the 0-0 draw they secured at home in the first leg against Zambia. The Super Falcons will need to find a way to break down the resilient Zambian defense on their travels to ensure qualification. Meanwhile, Egypt, who came out with a 2-0 victory in Burundi, have the advantage and will look to maintain their strong position to book their place in the final tournament.

Full Qualifying Fixtures

  • Ivory Coast – Burkina Faso (1-2)

  • Egypt – Burundi (2-0)

  • Zambia – Nigeria (0-0)

  • Senegal – Mali (2-2)

  • Ghana – Mozambique (0-1)

  • Cameroon – Zimbabwe (0-1)

  • South Africa – Sudan (0-2)

With only a few days remaining before the second leg kicks off, the stakes are higher than ever for the teams still vying for a spot in Congo. For some, like Burkina Faso and Sudan, their wins in the first leg put them in a commanding position, while others, such as Senegal and Cameroon, will have to mount a comeback to advance.

As the countdown to the final games begins, all eyes will be on these teams to see who can secure their place among Africa’s elite at the 11th African Games.
