AFCON 2027 Qualifiers: Egypt drawn in Group B alongside Angola, Malawi and South Sudan
Egypt have been placed in Group B of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, alongside Angola, Malawi and South Sudan, following the official draw conducted under the Confederation of African Football (Confederation of African Football).
The group sets up a demanding qualification pathway for the Egypt national football team, who will be expected to navigate a competitive pool featuring the physical strength of the Angola national football team, the disciplined structure of the Malawi national football team, and an ambitious South Sudan national football team side continuing its development on the continental stage.
CAF has confirmed that the qualification series will be played across three FIFA international windows, giving teams a structured route to the finals. Matchdays 1 and 2 will run from 21 September to 6 October 2026, followed by Matchdays 3 and 4 between 9 and 17 November 2026. The final phase, Matchdays 5 and 6, is scheduled for 22 to 30 March 2027.
The campaign will determine the line-up for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (Africa Cup of Nations), a tournament that continues to grow in global reach and competitive intensity.
This edition also marks a symbolic return of the competition to the East African region for the first time since Ethiopia hosted the tournament in 1976, underlining CAF’s broader effort to expand the footprint of African football across the continent.
The qualifiers come at a time when the tournament’s profile has never been higher. Recent editions, including the 2025 tournament in Morocco (Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025) and the 2023 edition in Côte d’Ivoire (Africa Cup of Nations Côte d’Ivoire 2023), recorded significant gains in commercial revenue, sponsorship engagement and global broadcast audiences.
Those successes have reinforced AFCON’s status as one of world football’s most widely followed continental championships, with CAF continuing to build on that momentum as attention now turns to the qualification road toward 2027.
For Egypt and their group rivals, the task is clear: consistency across a tightly scheduled campaign will be essential, with little margin for error across the three international windows that will ultimately decide who advances to the finals.
