Head coach of Ivory Coast Emerse Fae has cautioned his players not to be overconfident when they take on Egypt in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
In a high-stake clash on Saturday, January 10, 2026, the Elephants, who are the defending champions will lock horns with the Pharaohs, who are seeking for their eighth AFCON title at the Adrar Stadium in Agadir.
It promises to be a thrilling encounter, as both teams will be seeking for victory to secure a place in the semifinals of the AFCON tournament, being held in Morocco.
At the pre-match conference, Fae stressed his outfit cannot be overconfident against the Egyptian national team considering their qualities.
“You can never be too confident against Egypt,” Fae said at the pre-match conference. “There are similarities between the 2006 and 2026 matches.”
“We have done everything we can to ensure that all players are 100% ready, and our goal is to reach the final.” He said.
Egypt defeated Ivory Coast twice in 2006, first in the group stage with a score of 3-1, before beating them on penalties in the final to secure the title on home soil.
