Senegal edge Morocco in controversial final
Senegal secured their second AFCON title after a tense 1–0 extra-time victory over hosts Morocco in a final overshadowed by controversy.
The Teranga Lions were crowned champions courtesy of a brilliant strike from Pape Gueye, while Morocco were left to reflect on a missed late penalty and a valiant campaign that ended in heartbreak on home soil.

Player of the Tournament (Golden Ball): Sadio Mané — Senegal
Sadio Mané was the heartbeat of Senegal’s success. The forward’s leadership, influence and decisive moments throughout the tournament earned him the prestigious Golden Ball award. -
Best Goalkeeper: Yassine Bounou — Morocco
Morocco’s Yassine Bounou, widely known as Bono, was named Best Goalkeeper after producing a series of commanding and match-saving performances between the posts. -
Golden Boot (Top Scorer): Brahim Díaz — Morocco
Despite Morocco’s narrow defeat in the final, Brahim Díaz finished as the tournament’s leading scorer with five goals. His tally included a historic feat, becoming the first player to score in five consecutive matches at a single AFCON. -
Fair Play Award: Morocco
Morocco were also recognised for their discipline and sportsmanship, receiving the Fair Play Award for their conduct throughout the competition.
