President of the Egyptian Football Federation, Hani Abu Rida, suffered a health problem during the high-stake quarterfinals clash against Ivory Coast at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco.
The Pharaohs defeated Ivory Coast 3-2 in the quarterfinals clash on Saturday at the Adrar Stadium in Agadir, setting up a tricky encounter against Senegal at the continental showpiece.
It promises to be a thrilling clash, as both teams will be yearning for victory to secure a place in the finals of the tournament, being held in Morocco.
And according to Mustafa Abu Zahra, a member of the board of directors of the Egyptian Football Association, Hani Abu suffered a spike in blood pressure in the course of the game and had to leave the stadium for treatment.
“Hani Abu Rida suffered a spike in blood pressure when the score was 2-1, and he left the stadium for the hotel to receive treatment. He did not go to the hospital as has been reported.” He told ON Sport.
The match between Egypt and Senegal is a repeat of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations final in Cameroon, where the Taranga Lions triumphed over the Pharaohs to clinch their first AFCON title.
Egypt last won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2010, defeating Ghana 1-0 to annex their seventh title on the continent.
