AFCON 2025: Benin Cheetahs begin official preparations in Morocco
Benin’s Cheetahs have entered the next phase of their build-up for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, beginning official preparations in Rabat just days ahead of the tournament’s kickoff.
The team has trained in Benslimane, Morocco, since Thursday, December 11, focusing on tactical organisation, team cohesion and refining on-field automatisms.
Under the guidance of head coach Gernot Rohr and his staff, the squad has laid the groundwork for a campaign aimed at defending Benin’s colours on the continental stage.
Thursday, December 18, marked a key milestone as the Cheetahs moved from their training base in Benslimane to Rabat, where they will establish their official camp.
The delegation departed at 10:00 AM and arrived in the Moroccan capital an hour later to participate in a CAF-organised welcoming ceremony.
Players donned traditional attire during the event, a symbolic gesture that formally marked the beginning of their stay and reinforced the team’s cultural and national identity.
The afternoon featured the official flag presentation, a solemn and meaningful occasion that allowed players and staff to reaffirm their commitment to the nation.
The ceremony also served as a motivational boost, reinforcing the pride and responsibility associated with representing Benin on the continental stage.
Following the formalities, the Cheetahs returned to training for a final session of the day.
The focus remained on physical conditioning and tactical adjustments, building on the foundation laid during the previous week of preparation.
The squad demonstrated determination and concentration, signalling readiness as they approach their opening fixture.
Rohr emphasises the importance of discipline, cohesion and focus in the closing days of preparation.
The combination of structured training, ceremonial moments and strategic planning ensures that the team enters the tournament mentally and physically prepared to compete.
As the Africa Cup of Nations opens on December 21, the Benin Cheetahs aim to leverage their preparation in Morocco to make a strong impact and represent their country with pride.
