Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr Ashraf Sobhy, has moved to underline the strong bond between Egyptian and Moroccan supporters at the Africa Cup of Nations, publicly thanking Moroccan fans for their backing of the Pharaohs during the tournament in Morocco.
In an official statement, Sobhi praised the atmosphere created by Moroccan supporters, describing it as a reflection of the deep-rooted relationship between the two nations.
He highlighted the “spirit of brotherhood and solidarity that reflects the depth of the historical relations between the Egyptian and Moroccan peoples,” noting the positive impact this support had on Egypt’s players and technical staff throughout the competition.
The minister also commended the Moroccan authorities for their role in delivering the tournament, directing specific appreciation to the Ministry of National Education, Preschool Education and Sports for what he described as outstanding organisational efforts.
Sobhy pointed to the quality of the reception, logistical support for participating teams, and overall tournament management as evidence of Morocco’s proven ability to host major continental and international sporting events.
He stressed that the welcome extended to the Egyptian delegation and the vocal support from Moroccan fans sent a powerful message of Arab unity, significantly boosting morale within the Egyptian camp at crucial moments of the tournament.
Looking ahead, Sobhi expressed his hopes for both Egypt and Morocco as the competition progresses, wishing success to the two national teams and voicing his desire for a final that would feature both sides.
Such a scenario, he said, would showcase the strength of football in both countries while further underlining the close ties between them.
Sobhi concluded by thanking the Moroccan state, its leadership and people for their hospitality, adding that Morocco has set a commendable standard in organisation and hosting befitting its standing in African football.
