Guinea-Bissau’s national football coach, Baciro Candé, unveiled his ambitious goal of clinching victory in the upcoming 2023 African Cup of Nations, set to commence in January 2024 in Côte d’Ivoire.

The revelation came as he announced the final squad of 25 players from Djurtus for the prestigious tournament, where Guinea-Bissau kicks off against the host nation, Ivory Coast, on January 13, competing in Group A alongside Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea.

Expressing his fervent aspiration, Candé emphasized the collective determination of the entire team and the nation to secure success.

Candé pledged extensive effort from himself, the technical staff, and the players, recognizing hard work as the key to achieving positive results.

“My biggest ambition today is to win the AFCON as national coach. Myself, the entire technical team, the players, and all Guineans have to work hard to achieve our desired goals,” Candé said.

As the team readies for this significant football event on the African continent, Candé remains resolute in his pursuit of bringing home the coveted AFCON trophy.

The Djurtus will face Mali in a preparatory match in Bamako next week before flying to Cote d’Ivoire for the opening match of the tournament.

The 56-year-old has been the mastermind of Guinea Bissau’s successive qualifications to the Africa Cup of Nations since their debut in 2017.
