Al Ahly midfielder Marwan Attia believes a single result changed the course of their continental campaign.
“If we had beaten Sundowns, we would have won the Champions League,” he said, expressing frustration over the semi-final exit that denied them the CAF crown.
Attia, a key figure in Al Ahly’s midfield, revealed he’s been battling stomach pain and relying on painkillers for nine months, all while awaiting hernia surgery. Despite this, his commitment remains firm. “I’m proud to wear the Al Ahly shirt,” he stated, looking forward to the FIFA Club World Cup.
The Egyptian champions are set to face Inter Miami in their opening match, and Attia expects a tough battle. He highlighted the strength of the competition and reiterated Al Ahly’s aim to represent Africa with pride and quality.
Asked about Inter Miami’s squad, Attia named Sergio Busquets as his ideal opponent.
“Sergio Busquets is a role model for any defence midfielder and has a great history with Barcelona.”
