AFCON 2015 – Hervé Renard Wary of Guinea Ahead of Ivory Coast’s Opener
As Ivory Coast prepares to face Guinea in their Group D opener at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, Elephants coach Hervé Renard has expressed caution regarding his opponents’ quality and organization.
“It’s a well-organized team that’s capable of exploding thanks to the quality of its small-framed players who can get going very quickly,” said Renard at the pre-match press conference.
Renard acknowledged the strength of Michel Dussuyer’s long-standing work with Guinea, noting the continuity and chemistry that come from four and a half years of building the squad. He also singled out Ibrahima Traoré as a major threat and praised Razza Camara, whom he coached at Sochaux, as a player capable of making a difference individually.
“There are a lot of quality players in this team. We’ll have to be very vigilant.”
Despite being one of the tournament’s favorites, Renard’s Ivory Coast side knows they cannot afford to underestimate a resilient and technically gifted Guinean team in this high-stakes opener.
📅 Kickoff: Tuesday, January 20
