Adel Bettaieb: Tunisian-French winger linked with Esperance move from free agency

Tunisian-French winger Adel Bettaieb, currently without a club, is being linked with a move to Tunisian giants Esperance as the 29-year-old searches for the next step in his career.

Bettaieb became a free agent on 1 July after leaving Romanian side FC Arges, and Esperance are exploring a deal that would not require a transfer fee for the left-sided attacker. The Tunisian Ligue 1 club are understood to be assessing options in wide areas, with Bettaieb’s profile and availability placing him on their shortlist.

An attacking left winger who prefers to play off the flank onto his right foot, Bettaieb has built a varied career across several European leagues. His most prolific spell came in Luxembourg’s BGL Ligue with F91 Dudelange, where he scored 33 goals and provided 13 assists in 60 league appearances, helping the club secure the championship in the 2021-22 season. He also gained exposure to European competition, making appearances in Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League qualifying rounds and group stages.

Subsequent moves took him to Turkey and Romania, including spells with Umraniyespor, Boluspor, ACSM Poli Iasi, U Cluj and most recently Arges, largely on free transfers as clubs looked to add an experienced wide option without major outlay. His market value was last assessed at around €900,000, a figure that underlines the potential value of a free transfer for any suitor.

For now, Bettaieb remains unattached and able to negotiate immediately, with Esperance monitoring the situation as they weigh up whether to formalise their interest.
