Abha bring in Belgium international Michy Batshuayi on a free transfer

Abha have signed former Chelsea forward Michy Batshuayi on a free transfer, with the Belgium international set to strengthen the Saudi club’s squad from the start of the new season.

The club confirmed the agreement on Monday, announcing that the 32-year-old striker would represent their first team. Batshuayi arrives after completing the latest stage of a European career that has included spells with several prominent clubs.

Abha confirmed the signing through their official account on X, stating that the club’s sporting administration had reached an agreement with the Belgian forward to join the first team as a free agent.

The move takes Batshuayi to Saudi football following his most recent European experience with German club Eintracht Frankfurt. He played for Eintracht Frankfurt last season, which was his latest stop in Europe before completing his switch to Abha.

Batshuayi has also represented Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund, Valencia, Crystal Palace, Fenerbahce and Galatasaray during his career. His time at those clubs has taken him across several of Europe’s major leagues and included football in England, Germany, Spain and Turkey.

His arrival gives Abha an experienced international forward as they prepare for the new campaign. The club’s announcement described the agreement as a free-transfer signing and presented Batshuayi as a new member of their first-team squad.

At international level, Batshuayi has made 55 appearances for Belgium and scored 27 goals. Those figures underline his long-standing role in the national set-up, alongside a club career that has seen him move between a number of high-profile sides.

The announcement was accompanied by images of Batshuayi completing the formal signing with Abha officials. The Saudi club’s message was also published under its summer recruitment campaign and official club branding.

Batshuayi’s transfer follows his season with Eintracht Frankfurt and marks a new chapter in his career outside Europe. Abha will now have the Belgian forward available as part of their preparations for the beginning of the new season.

The move was confirmed as a free transfer, with no fee announced by the club. Abha’s statement focused on the completion of the agreement and Batshuayi’s role with the first team.

A Belgium international with 27 goals in 55 matches, Batshuayi joins Abha after previously playing for Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund, Valencia, Crystal Palace, Fenerbahce, Galatasaray and Eintracht Frankfurt.
