Abdelhamid Sabiri heads to Eyupspor after difficult Al-Taawoun loan

Abdelhamid Sabiri has completed a move to Turkish club Eyupspor during the current summer transfer window, with the club confirming the signing through its official social media accounts.

The Morocco international joins Eyupspor as a free agent after his contract with Italian side Fiorentina expired on 30 June. No transfer fee was required to complete the deal, allowing the Turkish club to bring in the player after the end of his agreement in Italy.

Eyupspor have not disclosed the terms or length of Sabiri’s contract. However, Turkish media reports say he has signed a two-year deal, with an option to extend his stay for a further season.

The move gives Sabiri an opportunity to rebuild his career after a difficult spell in Saudi Arabia. He spent last season on loan with Al-Taawoun but found regular first-team football hard to secure, making only 40 minutes of appearances across all competitions, according to Moroccan newspaper Al Botola.

Sabiri will now look to regain his form in Turkey, where Eyupspor have also recently added another Moroccan player, defender Jawad El Yamiq. The club’s decision to recruit both players adds a Moroccan dimension to its squad ahead of the new campaign.

The 28-year-old has experienced several different leagues during his career. His most notable spell came with Fiorentina in Italy, while he has also played in the Saudi Pro League for both Al-Taawoun and Al-Fayha.

Sabiri has additionally represented Ajman in the United Arab Emirates, giving him experience of football in Europe, the Middle East and the Gulf region. His latest move to Eyupspor represents another change of league as he attempts to establish greater consistency and secure more playing time.

The Turkish club have chosen not to provide financial details of the agreement, but Sabiri’s arrival comes without a fee following the conclusion of his Fiorentina contract. The Turkish reports regarding a two-year deal, plus a possible third season, are therefore the only available information about the duration of his commitment.

Eyupspor will hope Sabiri can make a stronger impact in Turkey than he managed during his brief campaign with Al-Taawoun. For the player, the transfer offers a fresh opportunity to return to regular competition and demonstrate the qualities that helped him earn a series of moves across different leagues.

His career has included the Italian top flight, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, and he will now continue that journey in Turkey with a club that has also brought in El Yamiq.
