Paris Saint-Germain’s quest for their second consecutive French championship title has been put on hold following a draw against Sochaux (1-1) this Sunday afternoon in the 35th round of Ligue 1, as reported by Africa.Top Sports.com.
Edinson Cavani gave PSG the lead in the first half with a goal in the 24th minute. However, the Parisian joy was short-lived as Thiago Silva scored an own goal for Sochaux in the 56th minute.
Despite the draw, PSG maintains an eight-point lead over AS Monaco in the league standings. However, Monaco still has the potential to challenge PSG for the title with three more matchdays remaining and nine points to be contested.
After the match, PSG coach Laurent Blanc commented on the performance:
“I would prefer if we focus on Sochaux rather than ourselves. We had opportunities to attack better, but we created many dangerous situations without conceding too much in the first half. However, we failed to capitalize on our chances. In the second half, we faced physical difficulties and were pushed around. Sochaux deserved their point, and there’s nothing more to say.”
“It’s disappointing when you prepare for a match with the intention to win it, but we have to admit that we didn’t do enough to secure the title today. The players are physically and psychologically tired; it’s been a long season. We need to prepare well for our upcoming match against Rennes to finish the season on a positive note.”
