Egypt secured a narrow but crucial 1-0 victory over Tanzania in an exciting Group A encounter at the CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations on Friday evening.
The Young Pharaohs got off to a flying start when Ahmed Sharaf found the back of the net in the 7th minute, giving the hosts an early advantage. Despite creating several promising chances in the first half, Egypt couldn’t extend their lead.
Tanzania came out of the break with renewed energy, making key substitutions and tactical changes in a bid to turn the tide. However, the Egyptian defense remained resolute, weathering late pressure to preserve their slender lead.
The result means Egypt finish the group stage with seven points and secure qualification to the next round. Group A remains incredibly tight, with South Africa and Sierra Leone also on seven points. Zambia sits just behind on six, while Tanzania ends their campaign without a point.
It was a hard-fought win for the hosts, who now shift their focus to the quarterfinals as the tournament enters its decisive phase.
