In response to the recurring issue of violence in Senegalese stadiums, the authorities have introduced a new approach to enhance security measures. The Senegalese government has allocated 900 local security personnel to approximately fifty sports federations to ensure the safety of sports events.
During the inaugural celebration of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace in Senegal, Minister of Sports Mbagnick Ndiaye disclosed that “900 personnel from the national agency for local security have been assigned to the sports department.”
These security personnel will be at the disposal of the fifty sports federations across the country. They can be requested by the federations to ensure security during various sporting events. However, it’s worth noting that these stewards will not receive monthly salaries but will be financially supported through stipends or per diems, with funding coming from the contracting federation in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports.
Established in September 2013, the national local security agency has recruited and trained 10,000 young Senegalese individuals aged between 18 and 25. These individuals will be redeployed to various structures to support security efforts.
