Ahmed Hossam “Mido,” former Egyptian national team star, has expressed his surprise at Liverpool’s formal request to the Egyptian Football Association officials, urging them to release Mohamed Salah from the national team camp scheduled for March.
Speaking on the “Al-Remontada” program on Al-Mehwar channel, Mido stated, “Liverpool sent this letter only after obtaining Salah’s approval and with the player’s support to be excused from the national team camp.”
“The timing of the letter was quite early, especially as the camp is set to commence in approximately two weeks, amid rumors of a dispute between Salah and Hossam Hassan, the new head coach of the Egyptian national team,” Mido added.
According to English media reports, Salah is expected to be fit for Liverpool’s clash against Manchester City on March 10, making him available for Egypt’s upcoming matches.
Mido found Salah’s behavior perplexing, given the widespread love and admiration he receives in Egypt.
He suggested that it would be best for Salah to attend the national team camp in the UAE, meet with Hossam Hassan, take photos together to quash any rumors of a dispute, undergo medical examinations, participate in the match against New Zealand on March 22, and then return to England.
“I don’t understand the significance of Liverpool’s letter, nor do I comprehend this manner of dealing with the Egyptian national team.
There is no justification for this behavior. Has Salah reached a point where he is fed up with being with the Egyptian national team?” questioned the former Tottenham star.
Mido warned that such a letter could create tension within the Egyptian national team camp under the leadership of coach Hossam Hassan.
He advised the Hassan twins not to engage in any discussions about Salah, emphasizing that Salah is an important player, and the focus should only be on Egypt’s regulations.
Mido also deemed the exclusion of Mohamed Elneny, Arsenal’s midfielder, from the upcoming national team camp as natural due to his limited playing time at his club, stating that accepting a place on Arsenal’s substitutes’ bench would have its consequences.
