Club Africain bid farewell to the African Confederation Cup after a disappointing 1-1 draw against Academica of Angola on Sunday evening.
The Tunisian side managed to secure 10 points, landing them in third place in Group C, while Academica grabbed their first point of the tournament, leaving them at the bottom of the group.
Rangers of Nigeria clinched the second spot after a late comeback victory against Dreams FC of Ghana with a 2-1 scoreline, leveling points with Dreams at 12 each.
Academica initiated the match with a swift attack, but Club Africain soon regained control of the midfield, thwarting the Angolan team’s efforts.
Club Africain pressed forward, aiming to secure the win and advance to the next round. However, they struggled to break through Academica’s defense.
The Tunisian team faced difficulties penetrating Academica’s defense due to a noticeable lack of strikers, resulting in a goalless first half.
The second half saw a different momentum as Club Africain intensified their offensive pressure. Midfielder Ahmed Khalil came close to scoring in the 51st minute but missed the target.
In the 56th minute, Kingsley Edu of Club Africain managed to break the deadlock with a spectacular overhead kick, putting his team in the lead.
Club Africain dominated the following minutes, seeking to secure their lead but faced a setback when Academica’s Samuel equalized in the 78th minute, putting Club Africain in a precarious position.
Despite their efforts, Club Africain failed to find the winning goal, resulting in a 1-1 draw and their exit from the tournament, marking a disappointing end to their Confederation Cup campaign.
