Kaizer Chiefs set for defensive changes in Siwelele FC cup clash

Kaizer Chiefs are expected to alter their defence when they face Siwelele FC in the Carling Knockout Cup at New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane today.

The changes follow last weekend’s 2-1 Soweto Derby defeat by Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium, in which central defender Inacio Miguel was sent off.

That dismissal could allow Rushwin Dortley to return to the starting XI. Dortley made his long-awaited comeback in the Carling Knockout last-16 tie against TS Galaxy a fortnight ago, completing 90 minutes in his first appearance for the club since the 2024/25 season.

He was an unused substitute in Kaizer Chiefs’ away match against Pirates but is now in a strong position to start against Siwelele FC.

Dortley had been making significant progress in his career before suffering a long-term injury. At the time, he was part of Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana squad. His return gives him the chance to regain lost ground, with Thabo Moloisane expected to partner him in central defence.

There may also be a change at right-back after Reeve Frosler was forced off with an injury against Orlando Pirates. Zitha Kwinika could replace him in that position.

Kaizer Chiefs have not played a competitive match since the Soweto Derby and will now turn their attention to the Carling Knockout Cup encounter in Polokwane.

A possible Kaizer Chiefs line-up is: Brandon Petersen; Zitha Kwinika, Thabo Moloisane, Rushwin Dortley, Paseka Mako; Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Lebohang Maboe; Mduduzi Shabalala, Mfundo Vilakazi, Pule Mmodi; Wandile Duba.
