Bachir Belloumi will join up with Algeria despite being unavailable for their next two matches, Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic has confirmed.
The 24-year-old has been selected by Brahim Hemdani for Algeria’s double-header against Togo in the third and fourth qualifying rounds for CAN 2027. The first match is scheduled for 14 November in Tizi Ouzou, with the return fixture taking place in Lome on 17 November.
However, Belloumi has been ruled out of both games after suffering a muscular problem.
Jakirovic confirmed the news on Saturday before Hull City’s trip to Arsenal in the 10th round of the English Championship. Belloumi was left out of the Tigers’ squad after agreeing with the club that he should not be risked.
The Hull City manager said the winger would report to the Algeria camp so that the injury could be assessed by the national team’s medical staff. Belloumi is expected to be unavailable for three weeks.
The former Farense player was one of the main successes of Algeria’s most recent international camp. He made his first three appearances for the national side and scored twice against Burundi in a 2-2 draw on 29 September, during the second round of qualifying.
He also scored in Algeria’s 2-1 friendly victory over Niger on 6 October.
If Belloumi’s absence is confirmed, Anis Hadj Moussa is expected to replace him on the wing for the matches against Togo.
