Barcelona’s fast starts pose early threat to Atletico Madrid

Barcelona have developed a habit of striking early this season, with the Catalan side scoring before the 10th minute in eight of their 15 matches across La Liga and the Champions League.

That record will be put to the test when Barcelona visit Atletico Madrid on Sunday, 08 November 2026, in the 12th round of La Liga. The match will be played at Riyadh Air Metropolitano.

The statistic, reported by Spanish newspaper Marca, underlines the speed of Barcelona’s attacking starts. Their opponents have repeatedly been forced to respond almost immediately, with the opening minutes becoming a particularly productive period for the team.

Barcelona’s quickest goal of the season came in the second minute, when Gordon scored against Getafe. Raphinha then found the net in the third minute of the Champions League meeting with Feyenoord.

Two further goals came in the fifth minute. Lamine Yamal struck against Valencia at Mestalla, while Xavi Espart scored against Levante at Ciutat de Valencia.

Yamal features twice more in the list. He scored in the seventh minute of Barcelona’s most recent Champions League match, a meeting with Aston Villa played last Tuesday, and later found the net in the 10th minute against his opponents at La Cartuja during the ninth round of La Liga.

Barcelona’s other early goal came in the eighth minute, when Cancelo scored against Racing Santander. Raphinha also struck in the eighth minute during the match against Alaves.

A wider first-half pattern

The club’s strong record is not limited to the opening 10 minutes. Barcelona have generally been able to score during the first half in most of their matches this season.

There have been only two occasions when their supporters had to wait until after the interval to see Barcelona score. Those matches were against Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.

Both games ended in defeat for Barcelona, making them the only two losses the Catalan side have suffered this season. The pattern highlights the difficulties they encountered when they were unable to establish their attacking rhythm at the start.

Their next challenge will be considerably demanding, with Atletico Madrid waiting at home. Barcelona’s ability to impose themselves early could prove important, although the hosts will be expected to be alert to the threat of an immediate attack.

With the two sides meeting in La Liga on 08 November 2026, Barcelona’s record of early scoring offers Atletico Madrid a clear warning: any lapse at the beginning could quickly be punished.
