Fadlu Davids appointed Young Africans head coach

Tanzanian giants Young Africans have confirmed the appointment of South African coach Fadlu Davids as their new head coach.

Davids replaces compatriot Manqoba Mngqithi, who previously guided the club, as the Dar es Salaam-based side look to strengthen their ambitions of dominating domestic football and making an impact in continental competitions.

The appointment marks a return to Tanzania for Davids, who previously worked with rivals Simba SC before taking up his new challenge at Young Africans.

The South African tactician is widely regarded for his tactical discipline and understanding of African football, qualities Young Africans will hope can help them maintain their position among the continent’s leading clubs.

Davids is expected to arrive in Dar es Salaam on Sunday, 8 November, to begin his new assignment with the club, popularly known as the Wananchi.

He inherits an ambitious squad assembled to compete for major domestic honours while also challenging for success in African club competitions.

His immediate task will be to familiarise himself with the players, establish his preferred style of play and build the cohesion required to deliver results.

The appointment also adds another chapter to the growing rivalry between Young Africans and Simba SC, with Davids now moving from one side of Tanzania’s biggest football rivalry to the other.

Young Africans supporters will be hoping the new coach can make an immediate impression and take the club to another level as they pursue their domestic and continental objectives.
