Como’s Ludi insists Nico Paz remains their player despite Real Madrid buy-back clause

Como sporting director Carlalberto Ludi says Nico Paz is “100%” a Como player for now, despite confirming that Real Madrid retain the option to bring the Argentina international back to the Spanish club in the future.

Paz has emerged as one of the standout players in this season’s Champions League, scoring three goals and providing five assists in four appearances. His performances included two goals and an assist in Como’s historic 4-1 victory over Manchester United.

The 20-year-old’s form has attracted interest from Premier League clubs including Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal. Real Madrid also have the contractual right to re-sign him in 2027.

Ludi addressed the continuing speculation in comments reported by TuttoMercato, comparing the situation with the recurring reports surrounding Real Madrid’s former players.

“I put myself in the position of Como supporters,” he said. “Every November and March, I do not know whether these rumours come from the media or for other reasons, reports emerge saying that Real Madrid are bringing all their players back home.

“This year they are talking about Jacobo Ramon, and over the next two seasons they will talk about Nico Paz.”

Real Madrid activated a buy-back clause in Paz’s contract last summer before Como re-signed the player permanently for about 60m euros. The new agreement included a further buy-back option for Real Madrid, valued at approximately 80m euros and valid only during the summer transfer window in 2027.

Ludi said the arrangement reflected a strong deal for Como and stressed that Paz currently belongs entirely to the Italian club.

“The truth is that we completed an excellent deal last summer,” he said. “Nico Paz is 100% a Como player. Real Madrid retain the right to buy him back by a certain date and within a specific transfer window, which is completely normal in this type of contract.”

He also insisted that a potential return to Madrid would not diminish the value of Paz’s time at Como. Instead, he would regard such a move as recognition of the work done by the club and a major financial benefit.

“Even if that happens, it would be a sale that rewards our work and brings great benefit to the club,” Ludi said.

“We will know how to manage the situation during the season, as we have always done in recent years, thanks to the excellent relationship we have with Madrid.

“For now, we have to enjoy the player because he truly represents an incredible talent.”
