Proxy’s Mustafa Mohamed explains why he is known as ‘Camavinga’

Proxy midfielder Mustafa Mohamed has revealed that his long hair led to him being nicknamed after Real Madrid and France player Eduardo Camavinga.

Mohamed scored a spectacular goal against Eastern Company in the Egypt Cup, although Proxy were beaten 3-2 in their round-of-32 tie and missed out on a place in the last 16.

“My brother started calling me Camavinga when I first appeared for Almazah because of my long hair,” Mohamed told FilGoal.com. “After I helped the team gain promotion to the Second Division B, I moved to Proxy last summer.”

The 3-2 defeat ended Proxy’s run in this season’s Egypt Cup, but Mohamed said he was pleased to have marked the occasion with a memorable goal.

“I am happy with the goal I scored against Eastern Company,” he said. “I had hoped we would qualify for the last 16 of the Egypt Cup, but our focus is now on the Professional League.”

Mohamed also identified the two players he regards as his role models, naming Camavinga as his favourite on the international stage and Al Ahly midfielder Marwan Attia as his leading Egyptian example.

“Of course, Eduardo Camavinga of Real Madrid is my role model globally, while Marwan Attia of Al Ahly is my local role model,” he added.

Eastern Company secured a dramatic 3-2 victory over Proxy in the round of 32 to progress in the Egypt Cup.

In another match from the same stage of the competition, Zamalek claimed an exciting win against Misr Insurance, who play in the Second Division.

That result sent Zamalek through to the last 16, where they will face Eastern Company, who advanced by beating Proxy by the same scoreline.
