Real Madrid aim to extend Valencia’s historic scoring drought in La Liga

Real Madrid travel to face Valencia on Saturday with the hosts trying to avoid an unwanted piece of history in La Liga.

The visitors are third in the table on 27 points, while Valencia sit 19th with nine points. Real Madrid will be looking for a victory to keep the pressure on leaders Barcelona, who have 30 points, with Barcelona due to play Atletico de Madrid on Sunday.

Valencia have lost their past two league meetings with Real Madrid and failed to score in either game, according to Opta. A third consecutive defeat against the Spanish giants would be their first such run since February 2023, when they lost four successive matches against Real Madrid.

The home side are also seeking to prevent a longer scoring drought. Valencia have not failed to score against Real Madrid in three consecutive La Liga meetings since October 1987 a sequence that would be 39 years old when the teams meet on Saturday.

Real Madrid have enjoyed a strong recent record at Valencia. They have taken points from their past three league visits, winning two and drawing one, and have won on each of their last two trips to Mestalla.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side will attempt to extend that unbeaten away sequence. The last time Real Madrid collected points in four consecutive league visits to Valencia came in December 2013, when they began a run of five straight visits without defeat.
