Real Madrid target a third away win as Valencia’s poor run continues

Real Madrid travel to Valencia on Saturday aiming to maintain their winning form and strengthen their challenge for top spot in La Liga, while the hosts look to halt a difficult season and avoid another negative result.

The match at Mestalla is part of the 12th round of the Spanish top flight and takes place on 07 November 2026.

Valencia have collected only nine points from their opening 11 league matches this season. According to statistics provider Opta, it is the third campaign in a row in which they have failed to reach 10 points at this stage.

They also had nine points after 11 games in 2025-2026 and seven in 2024-2025. Before that run, Valencia had reached at least 10 points in each of their previous 26 seasons in the top flight.

Real Madrid have won their last two away matches in La Liga. However, they have not managed three consecutive away victories in the competition under the same manager since September 2025, when Xabi Alonso was in charge.

Valencia have spent only 109 minutes ahead in matches this season. Only Malaga, with 74 minutes, and Getafe, with 108, have led for less time.

Real Madrid rank first among all teams for time spent in front, having held the lead for 510 minutes. Only Barcelona have a higher figure, with 816 minutes.

Real Madrid and Real Sociedad are the only sides yet to drop points after taking the lead this season. Neither team, however, has gained points after falling behind in a La Liga match.

Players and managers in focus

Valencia striker Hugo Duro has scored five goals in 10 La Liga appearances against Real Madrid. It is the joint-highest number of goals he has scored against any opponent in the competition, matching his total against Atletico de Madrid.

Only Raphinha has scored more goals in Europe’s five major leagues this season than Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe. Raphinha has 15, while Mbappe has 12.

Mbappe has also scored three times in each of his last two La Liga matches against Valencia.

Valencia manager Javier Aguirre has lost 14 of his 25 La Liga meetings with Real Madrid, recording four wins and seven draws. The only club against whom he has suffered more defeats in the competition is Barcelona, with 19.

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has never lost against Valencia in La Liga, winning four and drawing two of his six meetings with them.

Mourinho has faced only two other teams at least seven times in the competition without defeat. Against Real Sociedad, he has recorded six wins and one draw in seven matches, while seven meetings with Espanyol have brought five wins and two draws.
