Brentford do not intend to consider offers for El Hadji Malick Diouf during the next winter transfer window, despite reported interest from Premier League rivals Chelsea and Liverpool.
The London club regard the Senegalese left-back as an important part of their long-term plans and are not currently prepared to discuss his departure, according to TEAMtalk.
Diouf only joined Brentford from West Ham United at the end of August in a deal that could eventually be worth 48 million euros. The 21-year-old signed a five-year contract, keeping him at the club until 2031, with the option of an additional year.
That agreement leaves Brentford in a strong negotiating position should other clubs make an approach. The Bees have no immediate need to sell a player they see as a long-term investment.
Chelsea and Liverpool are understood to have shown an interest in the Senegal international because of his potential and the experience he has already gained in English football. However, limited playing time since his move to Brentford has contributed to speculation that he could leave.
Despite those reports, Brentford are not expected to open the door to a January move. Their priority is to help Diouf develop gradually rather than make a decision based solely on his current involvement in the team.
The club believe his recruitment represents an investment for the future and want to retain control over his career. Diouf is valued at 35 million euros by Transfermarkt, although his contract gives Brentford considerable leverage in any possible discussions with Chelsea or Liverpool.
Brentford’s immediate focus will turn to their 10th match of the English league season, when they face Brighton.
