Kaizer Chiefs open contract extension talks with midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa
Kaizer Chiefs have officially begun discussions over a contract extension for defensive midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa as the Soweto giants look to secure his services for the coming seasons.
The Amakhosi hierarchy have reportedly tabled a one-plus-one contract offer for the experienced midfielder, popularly known as The Bull. Should both parties reach an agreement and the additional year option be activated, Mthethwa could remain at Naturena until June 2028.
The proposed deal underlines the importance Chiefs attach to the midfielder, who has become a key figure in their squad since arriving from Stellenbosch in September 2023.
Mthethwa has earned recognition for his aggressive approach, strength in physical challenges and ability to protect the backline. His work rate and tactical discipline have also made him an important component of the team’s midfield structure.
The club’s technical team reportedly considers his ball-winning qualities and experience vital to maintaining balance in the middle of the park, particularly as Chiefs prepare for crucial domestic assignments.
Retaining the midfielder would therefore represent an important move for the Soweto outfit as they seek consistency and stability in their squad.
Mthethwa’s performances have also kept him in contention for selection with the South African national team, Bafana Bafana, further highlighting his value.
With negotiations now underway, Chiefs will hope to reach an agreement that keeps the influential midfielder at the club beyond his current contract.
