Maghreb Fes have dismissed Portuguese manager Rui Almeida following a run of poor results, with the team failing to win any of their past four matches.
The Moroccan club confirmed the decision in a statement, saying it had “reached an agreement to part ways amicably” with Almeida.
“Maghreb Fes extends its sincere thanks to Rui Almeida for the efforts he made during his time in charge of the team, wishing him every success in his professional career,” the club added.
Almeida’s departure comes as Maghreb Fes prepare to compete in the CAF Champions League. They are in Group D alongside Pyramids FC, Sudanese club Al Hilal and Horoya AC.
Maghreb Fes qualified for the competition after winning the Moroccan league title.
The club had also held talks with Krunoslav Jurcic, the former Pyramids FC manager, over succeeding Almeida. However, negotiations with the Croatian have now ended because of what the Moroccan club considered excessive financial demands.
Moroccan sports website Le Matin Sports reported that Maghreb Fes halted discussions after Jurcic insisted on a monthly salary for his coaching staff approaching $125,000.
The report said the two sides had conducted several rounds of negotiations in an attempt to reach an agreement, but a financial dispute prevented the deal from being completed.
Maghreb Fes are now considering South African coach Fadlu Davids, who previously managed Raja, as one of the candidates to replace Almeida.
