Kaizer Chiefs striker Flavio Silva earns Guinea-Bissau call-up for Morocco qualifiers
Kaizer Chiefs striker Flavio Silva has been included in Guinea-Bissau’s squad for next week’s international fixtures and will travel to Morocco for the first of two 2027 AFCON qualifiers against Madagascar.
Silva has made a limited impact at Naturena this season, with injury contributing to a lack of regular playing time. The forward has scored just once for Kaizer Chiefs, with his appearances often restricted to short spells.
He was again used in that manner during Saturday’s Soweto Derby, but his reduced role at club level has not prevented Guinea-Bissau coach Emiliano Te from selecting him.
Te confirmed Silva’s place in the final squad on Tuesday, continuing to back the tall striker despite his interrupted campaign.
Guinea-Bissau will face Madagascar in back-to-back qualifiers, beginning in Rabat, Morocco, on November 12. The match has been moved because Madagascar do not have any stadia approved by CAF and must therefore stage their home fixtures in Morocco.
The return fixture will take place in Bissau on November 17.
Silva made his Guinea-Bissau debut in March but was unavailable during the previous FIFA international window because of injury. His side won both of those matches, beating Tanzania and Nigeria.
Kaizer Chiefs will also have Lebohang Maboe involved during the international break, with the midfielder included in the Bafana Bafana squad.
Adolf Bitegeko, meanwhile, has not been selected in Tanzania’s latest squad.
