Lamine Yamal overtakes Mbappe to become the Champions League’s leading teenage scorer

Lamine Yamal has become the highest-scoring player aged under 20 in UEFA Champions League history after helping Barcelona beat Aston Villa 3-0 in the competition’s fourth league-phase match.

The Barcelona forward opened the scoring in the seventh minute, capitalising on a defensive mistake to put his side ahead.

Raphinha then settled the contest after half-time, scoring twice in the 52nd and 64th minutes as Barcelona secured a convincing victory.

Yamal’s goal took his Champions League total to 14 in 37 appearances, moving him above Kylian Mbappe, who scored 13 goals in 23 matches as a teenager.

The leading teenage scorers in Champions League history are:

1. Lamine Yamal – 14 goals in 37 matches 2. Kylian Mbappe – 13 goals in 23 matches 3. Erling Haaland – 10 goals in eight matches 4. Kluivert – seven goals in 18 matches 5. Raul Gonzalez – six goals in eight matches 6. Karim Benzema – six goals in nine matches 7. Jude Bellingham – six goals in 23 matches

Barcelona’s victory also inflicted Aston Villa’s first defeat in the competition.

The Spanish club moved on to nine points and sit second in the table, level with Aston Villa but ahead of the English side on goal difference.

Paris Saint-Germain lead the standings on 12 points, having won all four of their matches.

Barcelona will return to Champions League action on 25 November, when they travel to Sabah Azerbaijan for the fifth round of the league phase.

Yamal’s early strike and Raphinha’s two second-half goals completed Barcelona’s 3-0 win.
